Heat Loss and Heat Gain Calculations (CSA F280)

A heat loss calculation works out how much heat each room loses on the coldest day of the year, and how much heat it gains in summer. We do it room by room to CSA F280-12, the method the building code uses for sizing heating and cooling in houses. It is for infill and custom home builders, HVAC contractors and homeowners in Calgary and across Alberta who need a permit-ready report. Most single-family homes take 3 to 5 business days.

FAQ

Common questions about heat loss calculations

Do you do basement developments and secondary suites?

Yes. Basement developments, secondary suites and additions are all covered. Tell us if the suite needs its own system so the calculation matches the permit.

What if the plans change after the calculation?

One round of revisions before permit is included. Bigger changes, like a new addition, are quoted separately before we start.

Can you do a calculation for an existing home?

Yes. If there are no plans, measurements and photos usually work. We will tell you what we need when you send the project.
